John Joseph Caprio
When someone leaves this earth, there is a void for those who are left behind. I will miss my uncle's voice and good spiritness he had for everyone who crossed his path. He was my dad's little brother, though nine more brothers and sisters followed. I pray, my uncle, that peace is with you now......you will not be forgotten.

Dear Cousins,

A very joyous year (so many babies) and a sad year (John Caprio's passing) has been this year of 1996.

My research has been a little thin on the Caprio side of the family. The Italy trip Brought so much information it will be hard to top that year of finds.

A new hobby has been taking up a lot of my attention this year. I started making wine (light bodied country wine) in February of this year. So far I have made eleven flavors, grapes and fruit types. I entered my Thompson Concord Wine in the Mid South Fair here in Memphis. Lo and behold, I got a red ribbon and a check for $4. I have bottled over 75 bottles so far and have many glass jugs working (about 150 more bottles in the near future). Because of this I rushed out and planted two apple trees, a peach tree and a cherry tree. In the spring I am planting 20 muscadine vines of various types. Just call me your little ole southern wine maker...Ha! Ha!.

Dec. I will be in Baltimore, Maryland attending my son Cary's college graduation. So happy and so proud! Cary will be coming back with me in Millington for the Christmas Holidays. Dennis will be in from New Orleans, too! With Janet and Robert and their three boys, it should be a great time for my mom and all of us!

A thank you for all those who have sent me your family stats. I love hearing from all of you!

Love to all,

Kathy

The Caprio Chronicles 1997-98

Web Page
It is here and I am so excited about my family genealogy web page. It has music, graphics, some pictures, mostly genealogy and a little about me and my other passion, wine making. I have ancient phone lines and can only get a modem speed of 16,800, and the web page downloads pretty fast. I know not everyone has a computer or access to the Internet or the web, but please if you know anyone out there who does, please have them show it to you. The contents will include all past and present newsletters, about 20 surnames, cemetery listings, a sign in registry where all can view the comments and can leave each other messages, browsing music, links to other genealogy sites, pictures, lots of family histories are included in the surname charts. My newsletter will still be done the old fashioned way, by regular mail. The web site will be there for those who have access to the Web to have a major amount of family history at your fingertips. The cost to maintain the web site is included in my regular monthly unlimited fee package at America Online. This genealogy has two main branches, the Caprio's and Eckerson's and all their related families. The surnames are: Caprio, Falcone, Eckerson, Swits, Pierce, Oliver, Capen, Jenks, Olney, Thayer, Benson, Burley, Carter.

Caprio's from Colliano, Italy
Colliano, Italy is a few miles from Valva where our Angelo Michele "Mike" Caprio was born. As most of you know when I went to Italy with our cousins, Janet Caprio and Fil Vuocolo, I stayed in Valva and visited Colliano many times. Recently I have meet via e-mail the Caprio Colliano Bunch. The Connection to the Valvese Caprio's is through the Lorenzo Falcone/Anna Belmonte lines. So far we haven't found a direct blood connection, but I am confident that some day we will find the missing piece to the puzzle. The Colliano Caprio's are on the surname list on the web site too.

Doris Belmont Fahlman is a niece of Anna Belmont Falcon (e), and wrote to me that she remembers Anne Marie Falcone Caprio (who many of us know married John Caprio, now deceased). "At the time the depression was winding down we went to East Orange and lived with Aunt Annie and Uncle Lorenz. Aunt Annie spent a lot of time taking care of three kids, or those born at the time. Aunt Annie went out and worked cleaning apartments and Lorenz did not know about that since he would have disapproved. So my mom took care of the house and told him when he dropped in from the tailor shop that she had gone to the store or downtown Newark to shop. They lived at 20 So Grove Street and the tailor shop was just about 1/2 block away on Main Street. Their house was sandwiched in between two apartment houses and I think one of the kids told me that the house was now torn down. Porcelli (Marie's husband}, was a talented artist and he had painted murals and all sorts of things on the walls of the house. Aunt Annie was diabetic in her later years and used to go to the LB in the summer and took salt water hot baths at the beach. They were supposed to be good for the diabetes. She used to stay at our house and I know some of the last times she went to LB she had already lost a leg and my mom helped her get around. She(Annie) was a dear person".
Doris recently lost her beloved husband Connie and my sincerest sympathies to Doris and her children and grandchildren.

The Colliano Caprio connection that have been so helpful with giving me their family histories, are Doris Fahlman, Ida Kirkwood, Carol Weston, Dayla Buttner, Joan Kimball (Falcone connection), and also Kay Hogan-Torpey who is connected to Freda, Alfano and D'Ambrosio from Valva.

Caprio and Falcone
Jo Caprio Daly recently married Jess Cross and are living the "Walton" mountain life in Prattesville, NY.

I am sure there are probably more announcements but for unfortunately I mislaid the list and I hope you all forgive me this year. I will post this years announcements next time for sure. So it isn't too late to send me this year and next year's all at once at your convenience next year.

Cousins,

I don't want to be repetitive so please look at the other newsletter to see information on my wine hobby. With folks retiring and moving to smaller homes and those who are moving around the country with jobs and family changes, it is hard to keep up with all the address changes. So if you always received a newsletter in the past and didn't get one this year let me know your address. Of course you can access the newsletter at the web site, too. Eventually all past installments will be at the web site.

Hope you are all well and I am looking forward to hearing from all of you!

Kathy
